There are two methods of energy efficiency assessment:

  1. Software star-rating
  2. Basic BCA "Deemed to Satisfy" Report (DTS Report)

You will need a software star-rating if you answer yes to either of the following:

  • Your block of land is subject to restrictive covenants which state that your house must acheive a certain star rating when assessed using the software method, and a copy of your restrictive covenants have been provided to you in writing.
  • Your council has adopted a council policy which states that your house much acheive a certain star rating when assessed using the software method, and the council policy has been provided to you in writing.

In most cases the quicker and less-expensive DTS Report will be sufficient for council approval.
